Testimonials

I have been attending the boxing class at Plymouth Place for quite a while with Cam as the instructor.  Even though I don’t live real close, it is worth the trip!  Cam is very knowledgeable and cares about everyone in the class.  She is willing to answer questions and is understanding to everyone’s needs.  I like the class because I learned a lot!  Cam provides a variety of exercises, not just boxing.  When I leave I always feel like I had a good workout, I feel energized and am glad I attended the class.  The class also gives me an opportunity to be with people who are in the same boat as I am.  It’s very helpful to talk to this wonderful group if I need to.  There’s not enough classes like this around.  I don’t think there are ay on the south side.  It’s an excellent class.

My husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s September 2016 and has been attending Rock Steady Boxing since June 2017.  This program is designed to offer strength, core, balance and flexibility training which is imperative to those diagnosed with this disease.  Over the course of his enrollment, I have witnessed that this program offers to my husband and his classmates.  They are making improvements with their balance, coordination and cognitive functions.  In addition to these improvements they are sharing laughs and building relationships with one another.  We appreciate all of the wonderful benefits this class has to offer.  I would also like to add that Cam and Jeff, are outstanding teacher.

Since I’ve been coming to Plymouth Place Senior Living for their Rock Steady Boxing program, I have experienced improvement in balance, flexibility and coordination.  The workouts not only build physical strength but also provide opportunities for people with Parkinson’s to improve the mind and uplift the spirit.  I thoroughly enjoy every session.

Rock Steady Boxing has made me stronger not only physically but emotionally.  I know by attending Rock Steady Boxing classes that with each punch of the bag I’m holding off Parkinson’s a little longer.  My experience has left me amazed at all the various components of boxing; plus all the strength training exercises and challenges presented in each class.  The very best part of attending class are the people, strangers I now call friends.

To Whom it May Concern:

This is to support the employment application for by Cam Saban. My knowledge of her work history is as a resident in a retirement community where she has overseen our physical fitness and wellness. We are a community of about 400, nearly all retired professionals, with the usual spectrum of physical abilities.

Cam has always been a particular favorite of the many who participate in a broad range of her group classes and individual sessions. Her expertise in the physical needs of older people is apparent and she continues to update her knowledge with additional training and individual study. Her exercise classes are health-centered, incorporating explanation of why working on any muscle group is important and advising preventive measures to maintain active bodies, Often she shares information from the latest studies she has been reading about health related issues. Each session is different, never a boring routine, and always jolly fun.

She is innovative in designing new programs to serve special needs based on her continuous study of advancement in the industry.  She communicates effectively with other departments, such as physical therapy, skilled nursing, and memory support to be sure her work with individual residents is coordinated properly.

Most importantly, she creates a rapport with each individual while carefully guarding confidentiality. Clearly her success in that stems from her sincere caring about each individual with whom she is interacting. Cam has been a  major component in the health and happiness of residents here and her departure leaves a big hole in our lives!

For the past four years, I have had the pleasure of working with Cam in the Fitness Lab at Plymouth Place Senior Living in LaGrange Park, IL.  Under Cam’s skillful guidance, I improved my overall health and more specifically, my bone density has gone from Osteopenia back to normal range.   Additionally, my balance and muscle tone in general are excellent for someone of my age.

Cam is patient but firm and uses her understanding of her clients’ needs to help them achieve maximum outcomes.  At Plymouth Place

she worked with all levels of care – Alzheimer’s, assisted living and rehab patients.  She also created and conducted a variety of classes designed to meet the needs of our residents.  Her research of Parkinson’s Disease led her to implement a boxing program which has not only been successful for Plymouth Place residents, but it has been opened up quite successfully to the outside community as well.  Her classes were very popular with residents.

While I have not seen Cam work with younger clients, I have every confidence that she would be just as caring and successful.

I would also mention that Cam is constantly updating her knowledge of fitness and well being.  She uses that knowledge to find new ways to help residents improve.  As part of her professional life, she has been asked to give numerous presentations at various conferences and leadership seminars.

Finally, I would say that you will find Cam to be a very genuine and well qualified employee.  It’s not a job for her, it’s her desire to help others improve their health.  I highly recommend her.

It is my pleasure to highly recommend Cam Saban as a fitness manager or instructor, whether it be for fitness management, group or personal training, or specialized wellness programming. Cam came to Plymouth Place in January of 2013 as our Life Enrichment Department Fitness/Wellness Coordinator. She quickly developed new programs, including Chair Chi, Cycle (including Tandems), Ageless Grace, Floor Mat Pilates, Men’s Aqua Class, Aqua Pole Class, Rock Steady Boxing for Parkinson’s and more. She led programs throughout the continuum of care, including assisted living, health care and memory care. A popular personal training class including those residents with Alzheimer’s Disease.

With her development of Rock Steady Boxing, we opened our doors to outside clients that have Parkinson’s, and she quickly led two levels of classes. In April of 2018, Plymouth Place was awarded the LeadingAge Illinois 2018 Honoring Excellence Award for Community Impact for the Rock Steady Boxing program that Cam developed. Cam has also been a conference seminar speaker for LeadingAge, IL Health Care Association, Chicagoland Activity Professionals Association and more. In January of 2018, Cam became our Fitness/Wellness Manager and oversaw the development and training of part time fitness instructors, university fitness interns, volunteers and practicum students. Perhaps most importantly, beyond Cam’s amazing qualifications and leadership skills, is the fact that she is a wonderful, caring person that staff, residents and family members adore! She is greatly missed!

I am a resident of Plymouth Place retirement community and have known Cam for the 5-1/2 years she has worked here.

I am personally fortunate, as well as the whole community, to have had her as our Fitness/Wellness Manager.  We are diminished without her.

I believe that she was/is the perfect fit for her job.  Having worked with many different groups during my working life, I know how rare that is.  She has the right combination of energy, training, experience, motivation, and attitude.

Some of her accomplished include:

  • Fitness classes that are focused on our geriatric needs
  • Greatly increased number and variety of class offerings
  • Making the classes fun
  • Seeing the classes become so popular that the room was over-flowing
  • Was sought out as a counselor and advisor
  • Leveraged her capabilities to reach out into the larger community to start classes in our facility which not only helped them but brought money to Plymouth Place.

Her people skills and constant good humor make life better for others.
